Integrated Japanese Language and Culture Program for Leiden University

The Integrated Japanese Language and Culture Program for Leiden University was launched in the 2018 Academic Year (AY) with a partnership between the Faculties of Humanities, Leiden University and Okayama University. This unique three-month program focuses on improving Japanese Language skills, the understanding and researching of Japan and regional (Okayama) culture, and interaction with students and people in Okayama. For AY2018, Okayama University we welcomed 23 students, and for AY2019, we had 24. As one of the biggest regional exchange events, students are invited annually to the Netherlands “Oine” Flower Festival, which commemorates the link between Okayama and the Netherlands. In AY2019, a new course “Japanese Reading Aloud”, which is not provided in Leiden University, was started to offer a great opportunity to learn the natural pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm of the Japanese language.
