Why Did I Apply?
I learned the fun of international exchange through studying abroad, and when I found out that I could also enjoy international exchange at this share house while studying at Okayama University, I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity. I wanted to expand my sense of values and improve my English skills by experiencing various cultures and ways of thinking.
Atmosphere and Daily Life
It was just a lot of fun! Eating dinner together, studying together, talking about what happened today…our daily life together became irreplaceable.
Fun Things about Living in International Student Shared House
When we were studying, I enjoyed teaching Japanese and my roommates taught me English. I was also happy that sometimes my roommates allowed me to nibble on their food when they were cooking their country’s food, lol. After talking about each other’s countries, it was also a great memory that we talked about how nice it would be if we could meet again in the next time in our roommates’ countries.
Difficulties and Failures
I was a bit confused by the cultural differences, but I thought it was also a cross-cultural exchange, so it was not a particularly difficult thing for me since we had set rules for taking out the trash and cleaning up beforehand! Although I am the type of person who needs some alone time, I had a private room so I was able to take my own time.
Skills I got
I think I was able to keep up my English skills! I also gained the ability to live while helping each other.
How Did My Experience at Share House Affect Me?
I realized once again that international exchange is fun after all. I think it is a really valuable opportunity to make friends from all over the world while studying at Okayama University.
How Do I Want to Use This Experience in the Future?
I assisted in preparing daily necessities and signing up for a cell phone line, so based on that experience, I would like to support any newcomers to Japan, such as those from overseas. I would like to use my experience at Share House to anticipate any problems they may have, and hope to be able to help them in any way I can.
