“O-NECUS” stands for Okayama University – North East China Universities Platform.
‘Graduate’ Student Exchange Program.

Program Overview

Okayama University and seven universities in northeast China have cooperatively formed a consortium called O-NECUS. O-NECUS is a joint program which guarantees the quality of its international graduate school degree. There is a double degree program and a short-term credit transfer program.

Double Degree Program

This program is designed for students in master’s degree programs and bachelor’s/master’s combined degree programs at Okayama University and the seven universities in Northeast China. Students enroll as regular students at both universities to follow a joint graduate school program. After satisfying the completion requirements at both universities, graduating students obtain a master’s degree from both universities.

Short-term (Credit Transfer) Program

This is a short-term, 6 months to 1 year, exchange program designed for 6 months to 1 year for students in master’s degree programs and bachelor’s/master’s combined degree programs from Okayama University and the seven universities in Northeast China. Credits earned at the university where you study abroad during this program can be certified at your home university after returning to your country.

History

In 2006, based on the consortium of Okayama University and the seven participating universities in northeast China, O-NECUS was established. In 2007, O-NECUS was implemented as a university-wide graduate education program. In August 2007, Okayama established two China offices: at the Northeast Normal University (Changchun) and at the China Medical University (Shenyang).

A Spring/Autumn Seminar (including special entrance examination for foreign students) was held from October 2008 to accept students in the 1st term and since more than 340 students have studied at Okayama University. In addition, three O-NECUS symposiums have been held where O-NECUS was explained and the exchange universities in China were introduced, and the future deepening of the relationship between Okayama University and O-NECUS was discussed.

O-NECUS started at Okayama University with 3 graduate schools (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences). Since its start, 3 additional graduate schools (Graduate School of Environmental, Life, Natural Science and Technology, Graduate School of Health Sciences, and the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering in Health Systems) have participated.
