Why Did I Apply?
I have always been interested in learning about different cultures and customs by communicating with people from other countries in English. As an undergraduate student, I participated in a short-term study abroad program and also traveled overseas on my own. These experiences inspired me to build longer-term connections with people from around the world. I have also been interested in pursuing a career where I can use English and work not only in Japan but also internationally. I believed that serving as an RA would be a perfect opportunity to interact with many international students through daily life and dormitory duties, while developing my English skills, communication skills, and event management abilities. Although I initially felt uncertain, I decided to apply because I wanted to challenge myself, see how much I could achieve, and discover how much I could grow.
What I Gained from Being an RA
Through everyday life and community events such as watching soccer games, playing basketball, and making rice cakes, I had many valuable opportunities to build close relationships with international students. I especially felt a great sense of fulfillment when I saw their smiles as I shared Japanese culture and the charms of Okayama with them.

What Was Challenging
Right after the new residents moved in, there was a power outage and water supply disruption, which required an emergency response not only in Kuwanoki Dormitory but also in International Student Shared House. I was very nervous at first, but as an RA, I took the lead in thinking through the situation, giving directions, and taking action. When we managed to overcome the situation together, I felt a strong sense of accomplishment.
