Japanese Studies Students / Teacher Training Students

Japanese Studies Students spend approximately one year at Okayama University, studying to improve their Japanese language skills and researching to deepen their understanding of Japanese affairs and culture under MEXT Scholarship Program.
The Teacher Training Program is designed for teachers from other countries to conduct research on school education at the University under MEXT Scholarship Program.

① Embassy Recommendation ② University Recommendation
Japanese Studies Students Those who are between the ages of 18 and 30, and who are enrolled in a foreign (not in Japan) undergraduate university majoring in a field related to Japanese language and culture at the time of coming to Japan or returning to their home country.
Teacher Training Students × Those who are under 35 years of age, have graduated from a university or teacher training college, and have at least five years of experience as an in-service teacher at a primary or secondary educational institution or teacher training college in their home country (current university teachers are not eligible).

① Embassy Recommendation
  The scholarship recipients are recruited and initially screened by the local Japanese embassy (or consulate general, depending on the country).

② University Recommendation
  Students from Okayama University’s partner institutions are recommended by Okayama University to MEXT as scholarship candidate.

The schedule is subject to change, so please check each application guide.

① Embassy Recommendation

Recruitment is made between December and February for those arriving in Japan in October of the following year. Screening is conducted between Mid-February to March. Selected candidates are recommended to MEXT through MOFA by the end of April.
